Vehicles in German Town Found Marked with Swastikas in Human Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Police reported they were contacted by a man who noticed a car in Hanau marked with red-colored fluid

Roughly 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.

Law enforcement state they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.

The substance had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.

Police then located numerous other vandalized cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police report preliminary tests suggest the substance was likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no indication as to its source; investigators are currently not informed of any harm in connection with the event," they commented.

City officials said they were trying "to solve the case" and have appealed to the community for information.

An important representative said the incident made him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.

"This incident hits the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on online, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a assailant targeting residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
